Zechmannhof from its Origins to the Present Day

The beginnings: Zechmannhof is first mentioned at the end of the 13th century. In the 20th century, the farm developed from purely agricultural use into a modern equestrian centre with accommodation.

1941: Franz Stocker is called up for military service on 11 March 1941. After training, he is assigned to an anti-aircraft artillery unit in the Ruhr area.

1945: Franz Stocker is taken prisoner of war by French forces.

1946: On 16 March he is released from captivity and returns to Zechmannhof.

1950: Franz Stocker senior hands over the farm to his son Franz Stocker and his wife Margarete, née Fischbacher.

1955: The entire Ramsau Vorberg settlement area is connected to the electricity grid. At Zechmannhof, the kitchen and living room are renovated and a bath and shower room is installed in an adjoining room.

1956: The stable is renovated internally and a semi-automatic drinking trough is fitted for each animal. Grain and potatoes are grown in the fields. Manual labour is gradually replaced by machinery. A tractor is purchased. In the winter months, wool and flax continue to be spun. Tourism begins to gain momentum.

1962: The old Puch motorcycle is replaced by the first car on the farm.

1963: The attic is converted, increasing the number of guest rooms. Running water is now available in all rooms.

1968: Central heating is installed.

1971: An extension on the north side of the house is built to accommodate a dining room, an ironing room and two toilets. Three additional rooms and a shower room are added on the upper floor.

1976: A "sitting garden" is created.

1978: The "Zechmannhäusel" is built, featuring private and guest rooms as well as a breakfast room.

1979: The farm is handed over to Johann Stocker, who quickly achieves great success in horse breeding. The dining room is enlarged and Waldriede (Wali) Stocker receives the licence to operate a guesthouse.

1981–1982: The guest rooms are fitted with new furniture and the house is enlarged once again. A cold store and a new pantry are built.

1984: The barn is enlarged and two silos are built. Otmar Landl, the heart and soul of the house and farm hand, celebrates his 50th anniversary at Zechmannhof. In autumn, a shower and WC are installed in two rooms.

1992: Renovation work takes place, including the addition of a sauna & fitness room.

12.08.1996: Franzl Stocker passes away.

29.08.1996: Matthias Stocker, the son of Harald Stocker and Birgit Brandstätter, is born.

2003: Zechmannhof is restructured and becomes a dedicated equestrian farm. After the outdoor riding arena had been built some years earlier, the "flagship of the farm" – the indoor riding arena – is now added.

On 21.05.2005, Birgit Brandstätter and Harald Stocker finally marry after a long and eventful relationship.

2014: A Lipizzaner breeding programme is established at Zechmannhof.

2013: A new holiday apartment is built and the entrance area and exterior are completely renovated.

2014: Hansi and Wali Stocker hand over the farm to Harald and Birgit Stocker.
